1. The Nobel Prize in Literature for 2015 is awarded to the Belarusian journalist and author Svetlana Alexievich "for her polyphonic writings, a monument to suffering and courage in our time".

Union Government recognizes Yoga as Sports discipline

On 1 September 2015, Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports decided to recognize yoga as a sports discipline and put it in the priority category.

Kerala Temple won the UNESCO Award 2015

India has won the top UNESCO ‘Award of Excellence’ 2015 for Sree Vadakkunnathan Temple in Kerala. The award recognises the remarkable conservation effort undertaken at the sacred site which employed age-old rituals and conservation techniques drawn from Vastu Sastra focusing on architecture and construction. Xieng Thong Temple of Thailand received the UNESCO Asia Pacific Heritage Award.

Lord Mahavira, the founder of a great religion, Jainism, was born and attained nirvana;
