World Population Day Observed Across The World On 11 July
World Population Day was observed on 11 July 2015 across the world. The theme for the year 2015 is ‘Vulnerable Populations in Emergencies’. The theme focuses on the record number of people displaced by crises – some 60 million according to the latest UN figures. At present, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is working around the globe to respond to the rights and needs of women and girls, and help them to maintain their dignity by securing their safety, and restoring their access to sexual and reproductive health care. In 1989, in its decision 89/46, the Governing Council of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) declared 11 July as the day that should be observed as World Population Day by the International Community. The UNDP
recommended 11 July as world Population Day, in order to focus attention on the urgency and importance of population issues in the context of overall development plans and programmes and the need to find solutions for these issues.

New Butterfly Species Discovered In Arunachal Pradesh
A new species of tiny butterfly species called Banded Tit (Hypolycaena Narada) discovered in the green forests of the Changlang district in Arunachal Pradesh.The Banded tit is a resident of low-lying evergreen forests of Changlang and carries an interesting life cycle.
NASA Selects Astronauts For First U.S. Commercial Spaceflights
NASA selected four astronauts to provide crew transportation services to and from the International Space Station. Astronauts and test pilots Robert Behnken, Eric Boe, Douglas Hurley and Sunita Williams will work with The Boeing Company and SpaceX to develop crew transportation systems and provide crew transportation services to and from the International Space Station (ISS). They will train and prepare for commercial spaceflights that will return American launches to US soil and further open up low-Earth orbit transportation to the private sector.

Indigenously Built Aakash Missile Inducted In IAF
The indigenously-developed supersonic surface-to-air missile “Aakash” was formally inducted in the Indian Air Force (IAF). The Akash missile was inducted by Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar at a function held at Maharajpur Airbase in Gwalior after he handed over the symbolic key of Akash defence system (ADS) to Air chief Marshal Arup Raha. It was inducted in Army in May 2015. Aakash, which was already with the Indian Army, has now been inducted in the Indian Air Force. It is a potent supersonic mobile multi-target point, multi-directional missile, capable to engage multiple air targets simultaneously using sophisticated multi-function phased array radars. Capabile to neutralise aerial targets like cruise missiles, fighter jets and air-to-surface missiles with strike range of 25km.
Legendary Egyptian Actor Omar Sharif Died
Legendary Egyptian actor Omar Sharif was died on 10 July in Cairo. He was 83. He was best known for his roles in classic films Lawrence of Arabia (1962) and Doctor Zhivago (1965). Sharif was born as Michel Shalhoub on 10 April 1932 in Alexandria, Egypt to a to a Melkite Greek Catholic family. He made his screen debut in the 1954 for an Egyptian film named Siraa Fil-Wadi (The Blazing Sun). Since then he had appeared in more than 70 films and multiple television series. In 1962, he appeared in Lawrence of Arabia as Sherif Ali which was directed by David Lean. He had won three Golden Globe Awards (1962, 1963, 1965), Cesar Award (French equivalent of the Oscar) in 2004 and was nominated for an Academy Award. UNESCO’s Sergei Eisenstein Medal (2005) for his significant contributions to world film and cultural diversity.
India Accorded Full Membership of SCO at Ufa Summit 2015
India has been accorded full accorded the full membership of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) at its Ufa summit held in Russia. Technically, India will become the member of SCO by 2016 after completion of certain procedures. This membership will help India to work with the 6 members grouping to enhance connectivity, combat terror and create an environment for boosting trade by easing barriers.
ISRO successfully Launched Five UK satellites into Space
ISRO Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) C-28 has successfully put five satellites of United Kingdom into designated orbits. They were successfully put designated into orbit after its lift off from first launch pad of Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikotta, Andhra Pradesh. These satellites are three identical DMC3 optical earth observation satellites and two auxiliary satellites, viz., CBNT-1 and De-OrbitSail.

India and US signed Inter-governmental Agreement To Implement FATCA
India and the US on 9 July signed an inter-governmental agreement to implement the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) towards greater transparency between the two countries on tax matters. The agreement was signed by Revenue Secretary Shaktikanta Das and US Ambassador to India Richard Verma in New Delhi.The agreement will promote transparency on tax matters between the two countries.
Rashtriya Avishkar Abhiyan Launched by Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam
Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam, former President of India launched the Rashtriya Avishkar Abhiyan (RAA) on 9 July in New Delhi. “Rashtriya Avishkar Abhiyan” (RAA) primarily seeks to develop a natural sense of passion towards learning of Science and Maths in school students of the country. Under this initiative, government schools will be mentored by Institutes like IITs/ IIMs/ IISERs and other Central Universities and reputed organisations through innovative programmes, student exchanges, demonstrations, student visits, etc to inculcate a spirit of inquiry amongst students towards the two subjects. This is the Phase I of RAA, while Phase II of RAA will be launched in January, 2016 for higher education under which model science labs will be established in all districts of the North Eastern States.
Ashok Kumar Lahiri To Be Bandhan Bank Chairman
Ashok Kumar Lahiri, former chief economic adviser to the Indian government, will be the chairman of the upcoming Kolkata-based Bandhan Bank.The bank will start its operations from 23 August 2015 and will be inaugurated by the President of India, Pranab Mukherjee.
Notable Urdu Poet Bashar Navaaz Died
Renowned Urdu poet Bashar Nawaz, who penned the popular song ‘Karoge yaad to har baat yaad aayegi’ in the Hindi film Bazaar, died on 9 July in Aurangabad, Maharashtra. He was known as an Indo Pak shayar as his gazals are popular in India as well as Pakistan. Born on August 18, 1935 at Aurangabad, Maharashtra. His writings were regularly published in various Urdu literary journals magazines in India and abroad. His books Rayagan, Ajanabee samandar were very popular among gazal lovers.

India and Kazakhstan Signed Five Agreements
India and Kazakhstan on 8 July signed five key agreements including a defence pact to enhance military cooperation and a contract for supply of uranium. The agreements were signed in Astana after delegation level talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his counterpart Nur Sultan Nazar.
Union Government Declares Whole of Nagaland as ‘Disturbed Area’
The Union home ministry has declared whole of Nagaland as a “disturbed area” for a further period of one year from June 30, 2015. The state was declared as “disturbed” area under Section 3 of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958. With this declaration the armed forces get powers to search, raid and arrest anyone without a warrant.
SN Sahai Appointed as Home Secretary of Delhi
Senior IAS officer Sanjeev Nandan (SN)Sahai has been appointed as the Home Secretary of Delhi. Sahai is a 1986 batch Union Territory cadre officer. Sahai succeeded senior IAS officer Dharam Pal, who was removed as Home Secretary in June 2015 by the AAP government.
Rahul Bhatnagar is new MD and CFO of Bharti Enterprises
Rahul Bhatnagar was appointed as the Managing Director (MD) and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Bharti Enterprises. Bhatnagar succeeded Manoj Kohli, who has assumed the role of Executive Chairman of SBG Cleantech, a Joint Venture between SoftBank, Bharti and Foxconn for renewable energy.

China nominated Jin Liqun as the President-designate of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB). A selection process for president-designate was agreed upon in the Special Ministerial Meeting of Prospective Founding Members in Beijing.
Pune’s Fergusson College Won Heritage Status of UGC
Pune’s prestigious Fergusson College, founded in 1885, has been accorded the special heritage status by the University Grants Commission (UGC). With the status comes financial assistance for its upkeep. Now the college is among the 19 institutions in the country to get the heritage status.
Japan’s Meiji Period Sites gets World Heritage Site Status
Industrial revolution Meiji Period Sites (1868 to 1912) of Japan have received the World Cultural Heritage status from the UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific & Cultural Organization). This decision has been taken in 39th World Heritage Committee session that was led by Maria Bohmer at Bonn, Germany.
Jodhpur Film Society Received Pritiman Sarkar Award
The Film Society of Jodhpur has been conferred with the Pritiman Sarkar Award 2014-15 for the fourth time for being the best film society in Northern Region in raising awareness and film appreciation. The award was presented by the Federation of Film Societies of India (North Region). The award was given in recognition of screening of a series of films by the society in 2014-15 in Jodhpur to mark 100 glorious years of Indian cinema under the Incredible Journey of Indian Cinema.

India and Uzbekistan Signed Three Agreements
India and Uzbekistan have signed three agreements during delegation level talks held between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uzbekistan President Islam Karimov in Tashkent on 6 June 2015. The agreements are signed in the field of tourism, culture and protocol.  They also agreed to expand cooperation in the fields of defence and cyber-security.
President Inaugurated ‘Nakshatra Vatika’ at Rashtrapati Nilayam
President Pranab Mukherjee on 6 July inaugurated a ‘Nakshatra Vatika’ at his official Rashtrapati Nilayam Gardens in Bolarum, Secunderabad.The vatika (garden) has plants representing planets, zodiac signs and stars. The layout of ‘Nakshatra Vatika’ has been developed in various geometrical combinations corresponding to the Sree Chakra of Vedic astrology on a 0.91 acre plot.
BSNL launches Wi-Fi service at Hampi
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), as part of Digital India Project, launched its wi-fi service Hampi, which is on the international tourist map. Tourists at Hampi will find it easier to upload pictures to social networking websites or transfer them via WhatsApp. The service was inagurated at Sri Virupaksha temple for the benefit of tourists, both domestic and international coming across the globe. The facility is free for the first 30 minutes. On getting signals and opting for the service, the tourist will have to give his name, mobile number to get a password. The service could be used free for 30 minutes. Thereafter, one had to pay Rs. 30 for 30 minutes, Rs. 50 for 60 minutes, Rs. 90 for 120 minutes and Rs. 150 for the entire day as usage charges.
World’s Oldest Man Sakari Momoi Died
The world’s oldest man, Japanese supercentenarian Sakari Momoi, has died in Tokyo at the age of 112. He had been named the oldest man by Guinness World Records in August 2014. Momoi was born in Fukushima in February 1903, the year when teddy bear was introduced and Orville Wright piloted the first powered airplane 20 feet above a wind-swept beach in North Carolina. Now the title of world’s oldest man passes to Japan’s Yasutaro Koide, also 112 years old and just over a month younger than Momoi.

Lewis Hamilton Won 2015 Birtish Grand Prix
Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton of Britain won 2015 Birtish Grand Prix of Formula One (F1) on 5 June. This was his fourth victory of the season and his second of Birtish Grand Prix.
India Won 2015 South Asian Basketball Championship
India won the South Asian Basketball (SABA) Championship title. It was the 4th edition of the Championships. In the final played at the Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru, Karanataka, India defeated Sri Lanka 93-44. With this win India qualified for the FIBA Asia Championship which will be hosted by China in September 2015.
US wins Women’s FIFA World Cup
United States won the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup. It is overall third world cup title of US. In the World Cup final match played at Vancouver, Canada US defeated Japan by 5-2 goals score.
Pakistan’s Renowned Urdu Novelist Abdullah Hussain Died
Eminent Pakistani Urdu novelist Abdullah Hussain who authored the bestseller and critically- acclaimed ‘Udas Naslain’ passed away in Lahore. He was 84. He was born as Mohammad Khan on August 14, 1931 in Gujrat district in Punjab Province of Pakistan. He did his schooling and graduation from Zameendar College of Pakistan. He had received worldwide fame after the publication of his masterpiece Urdu novel and greatest contemporary works of Urdu fiction Udas Naslain in 1964. UNESCO had published a translation of this novel called The Weary Generations.
